Refugee and Immigrant Services Northwest

Mission, History and Values

Refugee and Immigrant Services Northwest is a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural organization with a mission of empowering refugees and immigrants and their families to become self-sufficient and healthy, contributing members of society.

From our grassroots beginnings in 1977 serving newly arrived Southeast Asian refugees in Snohomish County, we have grown to become a multi-service organization helping refugees and immigrants living in Snohomish, Whatcom, Skagit, San Juan and Island Counties.  Our core staff of 15 and 117 on-call interpreters are fluent in 40 languages and dialects.

We accomplish our mission by providing a comprehensive array of linguistically and culturally appropriate services and advocate for equitable funding and services for limited English speaking refugees and immigrants.

We Value

  • Partnerships and collaboration
  • Linguistically and culturally relevant service delivery approaches
  • Transparent and flexible practices

Our staff came to the US as refugees and immigrants.

While the refugee experience is different for each person, our staff shares a common language, experience and understanding of the struggles and challenges of starting a new life in the US.
